Well today at work we had a call about remediating the Kangatang Virus on some users pc’s. Apparently a few users are having a issue with it. The virus infects Excel. It spreads by infecting new workbooks and can potentially rename the .xlsx files to .xls. Apparently this is an old virus. They shared a download we can use from Microsoft to scan for the virus.

Desktop Running Slow
Today I noticed my pc was running slow. I looked at task manager and only 6 cores were showing and the CPU I purchased was supposed to have 12 cores. So, I did a couple hours of research and figured out it was a setting on the motherboard. There was a gaming setting that was enabled, I disabled it in the BIOS and logged in. Pulled up task manager and it was showing 24 logical cores. Issue was fixed, weird that enabling gaming on the motherboard caused it to only run 6 cores.

Virtual Server

Its Friday!!!!
During work today, created an Offboarding/Onboarding document for my IAM Team members. Basically, a doc that shows what accounts/permissions they need added to or removed from. Also, started a process for new hires to procure equipment and how to order replacement equipment.
At home, did a few lessons on Tryhackme. The lessons involved tcpdump and nmap basics. Still working on this website. -
New Desktop
Been working on building my new desktop for the virtual network I am creating. I ended up getting a full tower, new X870E motherboard with a AMD Ryzen 9 9900X 12-Core Processor. I installed 192GB of RAM. So far everything is running great. Can’t wait to test out running all the virtual machines.
